Wiltshire England August 2004

Wiltshire, England, August 2004

Last summer I spent a couple of weeks decompressing from my soul-destroying job fantasizing about living in England, and were it not for quarantine rules that keep out innocent kitties, I would have almost certainly moved there. As I it is, I got in a few pints, a few cups of tea, a few curries, a hired car on the left side of the road, the mud of Cornwall on my boots, and the salty Atlantic air in the my lungs. And just thinknig about it now, I want to go back.

You won't see any of that in this picture, but if you're like me, images like this one make it easy to understand where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien came up with their ideas.

this unlocked gate looks so inviting... is this the entrance to The Shire?

i thought the quarantine rules changed? for some reason i had once thought of going to the eu, saying i lived in such and such a place and had the animal there for that long, getting the paperwork and then going to england...then again maybe that was just me being devious, i don't know.

still, i thought they relaxed the laws...

he, even within the eu, they still need to go through quarantine. the rest of the countries, it's all good.
funny coming from the source of the mad cow disease.

good job on quitting.

don't even get me started on mad cow disease - since i lived in england i can't give blood in the states, full stop. forget the fact that i'm a vegetarian. i used to give blood all the time and this really bums me out that i can no longer help now that they changed the rules.

blurgh.

so the pet passport thing is really just nonsense? i have no idea why i thought there was a way to keep your animal from being subjected to quarantine (which is cruel and unusual punishment, if you ask me).
mitya: 06/15/2005 11:56 AM
as i recall -- this almost twas a year ago -- the UK did introduceed a euro-pet passport. so, for example, if the pet had spent the time equivalent to quarantine (six months) in, say, netherlands, then s/he gets a free pass. or something like that. ilisu probably knows best. basically no easy out.
