Once a week I'll try to post a favorite out of that huge drawer of negatives...
3.5 Million Acres of Sky
Lake Baikal, Russia, May 2001
One of my favorite places in the country, Irkutsk has all the romance of exiled Decembrists and the Trans-Siberian, plus miles of untouched wilderness on your doorstep. Lake Baikal is both the oldest and the deepest freshwater lake in the world. The water is crystal clear -- this shot is actually a reflection -- although parts of the lake may remain frozen each year as late as May. Unfortunately Irkutsk has gained notoriety over the last five years for huge problems with drugs and a subsequent explosion of AIDS cases.
